Demi Lovato‘s Canadian fan base was in for a special treat over the weekend when ‘Born to Be: Demi Lovato’ aired throughout the country. The heart-tugging special, similar to her MTV ‘Stay Strong’ documentary, touched on all of Lovato’s highs and lows throughout her personal life and career, including the importance of her friends and family who helped see her through a dark time in her life that resulted with the actress/singer/’X Factor‘ judge checking into rehab.

Thanks to the handy-dandy internet, some clips from the special surfaced soon after its premiere so fans all over the world could see what the sweet and talented Lovato had to share.

“I lost control of who I was,” Lovato admits in the special when talking about when she was 18 years old and became a person her friends and family hardly recognized. “I was very sick and I was performing shows on an empty stomach. I was doing a lot of things I wasn’t proud of,” she admitted. “I had kind of lost control of who I was and everything around me. I actually didn’t ask for help, but I definitely knew that I needed it.”

Lovato says she realized the treatment was working when she was starting to finish her meals “without a struggle.”

“It was a really great feeling, knowing I was doing something that was benefiting my health and well being, rather than my career. This was time for myself and it really felt amazing to accomplish goals like that. They seem silly, like finishing a meal, but for me, they were very difficult, but I was doing it and I am still doing it to this day. It changed my life forever. I am getting strong and I am unbroken.”

Demi Lovato can’t wait to begin writing for her fourth album, and she took to her favorite medium, Twitter, to announce it to the world.

Lovato, who just released a much anticipated video for ‘Give Your Heart a Break,’ is already planning her next project. She promises the effort will be deep and personal, possibly reflective of her tumultuous past year.

Lovato recently admitted she was initially embarrassed to talk about her myriad problems publicly, but this tweet promises candor in her upcoming songs.

While she insists she won’t hold back on her fourth release, she also got pretty personal on her third album, ‘Skyscraper.’ The title track reflects her struggles in and after treatment, while ‘Give Your Heart a Break’ tells a bit about her love life.

“I think that’s the reason I sing about love so often in the music I make,” Lovato mused. “Love goes right, love goes wrong. I’ve sung about loving someone so much that it takes your breath away. I’ve sung about the love you can find chasing your dreams and what it’s like to finally achieve that.”

Lovato’s progress and admitted regressions were captured in her ‘Stay Strong‘ documentary, in which she admitted to cutting herself and throwing up since treatment. We love how open she is about her life, because it enables her Lovatics to relate to her. We bet they can’t wait to hear her new songs!

Fri., Mar. 30, 2012 6:15 PM PDT by NATALIE FINN

Demi Lovato has been giving her heart a break as she focuses on her music, being healthy and just enjoying herself for a change.

But it appears that her hormones are still working overtime!

“I always love doing music videos, because they send me, like, 20 guys, and they’re like, ‘Pick the cutest one that you want to be your boyfriend’—and I was like, ‘This is so awesome,’” Lovato excitedly told E! News’ Giuliana Rancic in an interview for the video-premiere special, Demi Lovato: “Give Your Heart a Break,” premiering Monday at 8 p.m. on E!

“I really think the most challenging part of shooting my music video was that I was actually on set for the first time and the director said, ‘OK, you and this guy, you’re going to cuddle now,’” the 19-year-old recalled. “We totally had to look like a real couple five minutes after meeting.”

Watch this sneak peek to find out how Lovato and the handsome fellow she picked to spend the day in bed with broke the ice!
