The MMVAs, which last year featured performances by Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen and Nelly Furtado, also gave Lovato a nomination in the audience-voting Fave International Artist/Group of the Year competition.
There’s also nods for One Direction, Psy and Taylor Swift.
The Fave Artist/Group of the Year for Canadian talent will be fought over between nominees Jepsen, Bieber, Deadmau5 and Drake.
“I am so excited to perform for the first time at the MMVAs,” said Lovato in a statement Thursday. “I always love coming to MuchMusic and am thrilled to be a part of this year’s show!”

‘X Factor’ Judge Demi Lovato Talks Her Bipolar Diagnosis, Not Putting Up With Simon Cowell
Appearing on Tuesday’s Live! with Kelly and Michael, FOX’s new The X Factor judge, Demi Lovato said working with Britney Spears and L.A. Reid is amazing. But, what did she have to say about fellow judge and the competition’s mastermind Simon Cowell?
The pop sta, looking wide-eyed, simply joked, “Who?”
Laughing, she stated that the notoriously snarky judge is “really fun to work with too. We have a lot of fun together.”
What else did Lovato say about the Brit who likes to dish tough love to the contestants?
The 20-year old singer with the ever-changing hair color said that when Simon gives her lip, which appears to be often, “I give it back to him. I don’t put up with it. “
She continued, “I’m a southern girl who speaks her mind. If you’re going to dish it you might as well be able to take it.”
In addition to promoting The X Factor, Lovato also provided fans with some reassurance that she is doing well after receiving treatment last year for an eating disorder and self-injurious behavior. In August of 2011, the former Disney Channel star revealed she was struggling with Bipolar disorder, which causes severe highs and lows in your moods.
Reflecting on the situation, she told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, “Well you know I got into a situation in a different country where I actually ended up hurting one of my friends. I was just going through something so dark and I was very, very mentally sick. When I landed, after leaving the tour, my parents had planned an intervention and thank God I said, ‘Yes,’ because they actually were like, ‘We already called the police, so if you’re saying ‘no’ you’re kind of screwed. You’re going anyways.”
Lovato said it was a relief to know that there was a reason for her extreme highs and lows.
“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh that means I’m not really crazy! There’s a reason.’ It was just so awesome to be able to pinpoint a diagnosis for the reasons why I was extremely amazingly happy in a euphoric state and then the next month I was in this deep depression. I had everything great in my life and I had nothing to complain about, but I wasn’t happy.”
You can catch Lovato performing her hit single, “Give Your Heart a Break,” on Thursday’s MTV Video Music Awards pre-show at 7 PM.
The X Factor premieres Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 8 PM on FOX.
Demi Lovato: Simon Cowell is intimidated by me on ‘X Factor’
By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor
Demi Lovato may be the youngest member on the revamped “X Factor” panel, but she’s far from the shyest when it comes to dealing with resident grump Simon Cowell. Promos for the upcoming season have revealed that that the entertainer holds her own — and then some — up against the talent show vet.
“He calls me a brat. It’s OK,” Lovato told TODAY’s Natalie Morales Wednesday morning. “He’s just intimidated by my responses (on the show)…. I give it back to him.”
But don’t let the early drama fool you. While Lovato and Cowell swap plenty of barbs, she actually gets along great with all of her fellow judges.
“Working on this panel is just absolutely incredible, and I never thought I’d be sitting next to Britney Spears for anything in my life, let alone working with her all the time,” she explained. “That’s amazing. And then Simon and L.A. Reid, they’re so intelligent and awesome. They know what they’re doing, so I’m very honored to be working with them.”
As for the other talent to soon set to appear on “X Factor” — the on-stage talent — Lovato doesn’t have as many kind words.
“When I sit on that panel and they ask me for my opinion, I will be very honest,” she said. “And sometimes it may seem a little harsh, but I try to say it as nicely as possible. You know, sometimes it does come off harsh, because it’s brutally honest and they don’t want to hear it.”
But the acts better be ready to take it. After all, there’s a lot on the line.
“Ultimately we’re really looking for someone to invest $5 million on. That’s what the prize is,” she stressed. “So if we’re going to spend $5 million on somebody, they have to be ready to go.”
The second season of “The X Factor” premieres Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
Do you think Demi Lovato and Britney Spears will be winning additions on the upcoming season of “The X Factor”?
The X Factor will be housing two former Disney pop princesses at its judging table in season two!
Teen idol Demi Lovato has officially joined the Fox hit reality series as the fourth and final judge, sources confirm to E! News.
Lovato is set to join Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and fellow newbie judge Britney Spears when the show returns in September.
While Fox isn’t commenting on Lovato’s hiring, the 19-year-old singer is expected to make an appearance tomorrow at the network’s upfront presentation in New York City. Spears is also expected to appear at the event where a formal announcement about the duo joining the show will be made.
News of Lovato officially joining the show was first reported by TMZ.
Last week, Spears finalized her deal to join the show. As we previously reported, Spears will get $15 million for one season’s worth of work.
Before Lovato signed on, The X Factor was reportedly courting fellow former Disney star Miley Cyrus, but sources told us she was never approached with an offer.
Cowell had been on the hunt for two judges to replace Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger since he fired them in January.
Demi Lovato is a believer in the paranormal, which means she was the perfect target for a ‘Punk’d’ prank involving ghosts in her recording studio. MTV has released a clip of Lovato’s episode of ‘Punk’d,’ which airs in its entirety next Thursday at 10PM ET.
“This is my episode of ‘Punk’,’ baby!,” exclaims Nick Cannon, who serves as guest host for this episode. His Lovato prank involves the help of Alex and Jack from All Time Low. Lovato and friends are working on a song in a studio when strange things begin happening.
First, she hears unexplained breathing on the playback. Then, Demi and her team freak out when they see a ghostly image of a woman sitting at the piano. Lovato told MTV, “I’m a sucker for, like, ghosts and aliens and stuff like that, so they got me pretty good.”
Lovato admitted she worried that creator Ashton Kutcher might target her if Punk’d ever came back on the air. “I always wondered if it was gonna come back around, and if it did, if I would be one of them,” she said. “For years, if someone was rude to me in the gas station, I’d be like, ‘Where’s Ashton?’”
Also receiving the ‘Punk’d’ treatment next week is singer-actress Ashley Tisdale, who is tricked into thinking the car she’s riding in ran over a pedestrian.
According to a few sources out there , Demi Lovato will set to perform at the “Today Show” (NBC) on Tuesday, March 6th. So mark your calendars and check your local listings!
